Hello From the Other Side
WIP Wednesday
Writing: Made it to 50K! Still nursing the hands, so still on a slower writing schedule. They get tired easy. All progress is good and welcome these days.
Part of the slow up was thinking one of my character’s storylines was off. Something was nagging at me. When the nags happen, I have to stop and think. What is bothering me? This. Okay. We know what. Now, why? My pat answer is, I’m bored. I tell myself that’s not a good enough answer. Why am I bored? Once I figure that out, then I can plan the solution and move forward.
(Psst! The Rifters Kickstarter is now in prelaunch. I have lots of goodies planned. Estimated launch date, Fall 2026. SIGN UP)
Author Busyness: Keeping busyness to a dull roar and keeping my hand power for mostly work and writing. While resting, I can’t completely rest. It’s not in my nature. So, I thought about how to branch out more and watched a lot of videos on YouTube.
Watched a video on creating pulp magazines, which I thought was really interesting. Confession: I got excited about it. Like really excited. Then I priced it out, and it just won’t work. Maybe if I produced a lot of shorter stuff, it would. But for the price of the magazines and writing a novel as a serial, I might as well just offer the paperback. So, that idea got nixed.
Print sort of made a comeback for me. It’s offered solely through my Kickstarters. I never sold a lot of it is why. If more demand comes up for print, I’ll look at less fancy editions. For now, KS offers print for those who are interested. If one Kickstarter is missed, the print can be picked up as an add-on in the next.
Audio is a like a dream goal. It’s so expensive! Right? The market share keeps growing, so I figure I can’t ignore it.
So, I decided to be brave and will start to read my own stories. A good microphone is on the way, and my closet is ready for its time as a sound booth. Reading the books myself is the only way I can afford to get into audio as an indie creator. The ACX rights sharing got a few books into audio, but they didn’t sell well. Just asked for my rights back as over 7 years have passed.
I came up with an entire plan for the audio, and as indie creators we can upload our own files onto Findaway Voices to get our work distributed (including on Spotify). I’ll start small with some of my short stories and find my feet (or my voice, ha!). Once I get comfortable, I’ll move onto producing my novels into audio.
Then I put lots of thought into extras I can offer through my store and have a few ideas.
First, I need these hands to heal so I can do more graphics work… and audio work. I’m sure there’s a steep learning curve for that. There always is, right?
How’s your WIP going? Any ideas on branching out?

I am really enjoying the artwork!
way to go!
