What is Reality?
Inspiration Thursday
This week’s inspiration comes from favorite book, Steppenwolf, and Hermann Hesse is one of my favorite writers. Reading his work feels like a journey; his sentences often send my thoughts tumbling off the page, searching. His characters are usually searching, too. To me, he isn’t a fast read because his words invite my thoughts and mind to actively participate, to linger, expand, and become part of the seeking.
Here’s a little more about Hesse: (1877–1962) He was a German-Swiss novelist, poet, and essayist best known for exploring themes of identity, spirituality, and the search for meaning in modern life. His work often follows deeply introspective characters who struggle between societal expectations and their inner world. Major works include Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and Demian. Hesse was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946 for his enduring influence on literature and his exploration of the human spirit.
Fun fact: Echoes of Haller Canyon by me was inspired by Steppenwolf. The name Haller in the title was the name of the main character in Steppenwolf.
Of all the books I’ve read over my life, this one has had the most profound influence in how I view myself and the world. That’s quite a book, huh? I think so.
Is there a book that has had a profound influence on you?
