What's the Emergency?
Inspiration Thursday
Antelope, Oregon, was once a haven for a cult. You can look all that up on your Google machine if you want to know more. These days, it’s a barely populated town that sits in some pretty country.
I found lots of inspiration in Antelope, especially for the Rifters. This very old firetruck sits alone in a vast field.
In the words of David Byrne, “How Did I Get Here?” Mostly, I want to know how the firetruck ended up where it did.
In my writer’s mind, it was used against a fiery monster that came through the rift and got mired in the soft, silty dirt. Some other grass monster grabbed onto its tires and rooted it in the spot.
Maybe it wasn’t a monster. Instead, the firetruck got so scared it turned white and froze in place.
All the same, it was fun to run into this pretty relic.
Why do you think the firetruck is there?

I loved idea of a fire truck frozen in fear!
This ol’ Chevy fire truck started it’s career out in that neck of the woods. One day, when it was still a bright red young pup, it was on its way to a grass fire in the back country. Suddenly a bright airborne flash froze it in its tracks and the young truck was gone in a beam of light from above. Seventy years later it reappeared, only now it’s a white haired senior gent with no idea where the last 70 years went … 🚒
